Outgoing VP Pence announcement that members of the U.S. Space Force would be known as Guardians.
Pence tweeted,
“It was my honor to announce today, that the men and women of the Space Force will be known as GUARDIANS!”
This hit Twitter like a rocket into outer space,
Trump established the sixth branch of the U.S. Armed Forces, the Space Force last year. No, it’s not a joke, but it IS funny. At the time, Trump said Space Force would help the U.S. achieve superiority in space, the
“world’s newest warfighting domain.”
The war fighting domain known as space is not foreign to the Marvel Cinematic Universe who slammed the government for co-opting the name of the Guardians of the Galaxy series.
James Gunn, director of the Guardians of the Galaxy films, put it most simply (and litigiously)
“Can we sue this dork?”
According to the Space Force website, the name was chosen after a
“yearlong process that produced hundreds of submissions and research involving space professionals and members of the general public.”
Podcast host and columnist Dan Savage tweeted,
“Hundreds of submissions and one screening of Guardians of the Galaxy at the White House.”
Rock legend Peter Frampton criticized both the name and Trump tweeting,
“I LOVE this movie but love nothing abt Space Force with rip off badge from StarTrek this is pitiful
Do we need a special branch of the military for this? It’s all about tv shows for Mr Orange. Wait unless we can slip him into a parallel universe using The string cheese theory?”
Twitter shook it’s sad head…

Can we sue this dork? https://t.co/9skZ8aG446
