Have you seen the Trading Spouses episode with loopy born-again Marguerite Perrin? If you have, you’ll for sure be talking back to Randy, Tom, Fenton, Moye, and James when they get into the discussion of morals, morality, and crazy exploited people later on. But first, James sings a few bars from the Rent TV trailer, then a few bars more, until Randy smacks him with a pillow. The ’90s and ’80s are touched on, as is Oprah’s 20 years of changing taste and changing the taste of her viewers’ world. Looking at taste from both sides now, it seems Oprah and Madonna are the bad-taste babies of the ’80s embracing good taste in the oughts, which will look like bad taste in 20 years. Is dying good for a career? Nancy Grace as scouring powder, says Fenton. What’s scouring powder? everyone asks. David Ludwig is mentioned, but surprisingly little about him is said. James gets cut down when he suggests underage is the new gay (and remember that, podcast viewers, when James get all moral in a few minutes). A little more Madonna. A little more Oprah, who Tom says looks just like his mom, “only black.” And then Marguerite Perrin comes up, thanks to James, who feels she’s been exploited. Is she mentally unstable? Are all people insane? HUGE dispute ensues over the exploiting of people on reality shows. James gets moral, Randy gets defensive, everybody gets overexcited, which leads to quiet philosophical discourse. Then things heat up again, cool down, heat up. The the personal attacks begin. Hoo boy!
