Sotheby’s Hong Kong may break all records next month by auctioning this flawless, egg-sized 118-carat white diamond, with a pre-sale estimate of $28 to $35 million. The current records for both price and size for a perfect white diamond were set in 2012 at a Christie’s auction when a 101.73-carat gem sold for $26.7 million. At Christie’s fall contemporary auction Peter Brant will sell an orange Jeff Koons balloon dog (not this one, but one from the series) with an estimate of $35 to $55 million which has the potential to make Koons the world’s most expensive living artist at auction. Gerhard Richter currently holds that title. (Diamond photo: Sotheby’s)
