Our New Six-Part Series “Original Sin: How Sex Changed The World” Coming to National Geographic Channel!

It’s going to be getting SEXUAL up in here! Our new production Original Sin: How Sex Changed The World with Dr. Ruth Westheimer will be hitting the National Geographic Channel this year—in 171 countries and 45 languages. The six-part series will take a close look at the sexual revolution of the past half-century and how it has impacted culture, science, and politics around the world.

Original Sin will also touch upon the ways sex on the Internet has affected notions of privacy, sex robots in the UK,  the Japanese bars where women can have a cocktail while enjoying a vibrator, and Thailand’s move to include the term “third gender” in its constitution for the first time in an effort to ensure transgender and gay communities their legal rights.

Deadline reports:

Closer to home, the series will detail how sex education over the years has taught us more about fears and anxieties than sex, the usefulness of sex scandals in exposing political hypocrisy and how concepts of gender and sexuality are being redefined by such public figures as Laverne Cox and Caitlyn Jenner.

“In the footsteps of our decades-defining series about how pivotal moments, people and innovations shaped the ’80s, ’90s and 2000s, we now turn our attention to a subject that was once taboo but that impacts everything around us,” said Tim Pastore, President of Original Programming and Production for National Geographic Channel.

Added Fenton Bailey, co-CEO of World of Wonder, “It is time to cast aside modesty and examine without embarrassment the impact that sex has on our lives.”

Using archival footage, animation and interviews with experts — including, yes, 87-year-old sex therapist Dr. Ruth Westheimer — Original Sin will uncover the surprising ways sex impacts humanity and how it’s changed during the past 50 years.

Sex came early to TCA today, but made up for lost time. NatGeo’s sex project might be the most ambitious sex project announced at Winter TV Press Tour 2016, but it was not the first announced, coming, as it did after Comedy Central unveiled its new sex-probing comedy series starring “curious perv” Nikki Glaser.

Bailey, Randy Barbato, Tom Campbell, and Dan Partland are executive producers for World of Wonder on NatGeo’s project. At NatGeo, Kevin Mohs is VP Production and Development, and Alan Eyres is SVP Programming and Development.
