This fall, Supreme teams up with the Basquiat estate to present a collection based on his work as well as portraits of Basquiat himself. It will unveil in New York, Los Angeles, London, and online this Thursday, September 26.
Being touted as “the new Basquiat” is nothing new, but two years ago Oscar Murillo cleaned offices to put himself through art school and in June an untitled work of his fetched $389,199 at auction. Last week, A-list New York gallerist David Zwirner added the 27-year-old to his stable and both Sotheby’s and Phillips will offer works by Murillo in their September contemporary-art auctions. Whether or not he’s the new anything, the future looks pretty bright for young Mr Murillo. (Photo of Murillo: The Rubell Family Collection)
