Celebrities doing what they can to help, I love to see it.
TMZ is reporting that Oprah Winfrey is donating $10 million to help people struggling during the pandemic. One million dollars will go to help feed hungry Americans who are food insecure.
Oprah says that money is going to America’s Food Fund — an initiative co-founded by Jimmy John Liautaud which just got off the ground. AFF is aiming to provide meals for communities hit hard by the virus, and it’s also backed by Apple and the Ford Foundation.
The remaining $9 million will go to various COVID-19 related relief efforts in communities across the country and in areas where she grew up — Mississippi and Tennessee.
Elsewhere, Page Six reports that Reese Witherspoon is donating 250 (REALLY ADORABLE) dresses from her Draper James fashion label (above) to teachers across the United States, as a gesture of thanks for their hard work during the coronavirus pandemic.
“I have been so encouraged by the ways people are really showing up for each other,” says the actress, producer and entrepreneur. “During quarantine, teachers are broadcasting lessons from their own homes and figuring out new remote-learning technology and platforms on the fly, all while continuing to educate and connect with our kids. Advocating for the children is no easy task, so I wanted to show teachers a little extra love right now.”
Teachers can enter to win a Draper James dress via Google Form through April 5, with winners announced April 7. Eligible teachers who enter will also receive promo codes for 25 percent discounts. Meanwhile, the brand will also offer educators a 25 percent discount on May 5 in honor of Teacher Appreciation Day.
Oprah and Reese are just the latest celeb to pitch in to coronavirus relief … just this week, Ryan Reynoldsand Blake Lively gave $400k to New York hospitals after a previous $1 million donation to Feeding America and Food Bank Canada.
