SURVIVING TRUMP: THE ART OF RESISTANCE
ART AND POLITICS COLLIDE AT THE
WORLD OF WONDER STOREFRONT GALLERY
JANUARY 18, 2017
Los Angeles, Jan 18, 2017: As the world braces for the presidency of Donald Trump, World of Wonder co-founders Fenton Bailey & Randy Barbato announce “SURVIVING TRUMP: THE ART OF RESISTANCE” a brand new World of Wonder Storefront Gallery group art show. The exhibit will feature dozens of artists displaying their wild and twisted visions of the current political climate.
Trump’s road to the White House has been filled with hateful, sexist, racists, anti-LGBT and white extremist messages. On the eve of his inauguration, WOW is thrilled to provide a platform that allows artistic voices to express their resistance to this deeply frightening authoritarian leader.
“When the going gets rough, people turn to the arts and Hollywood for reassurance,” says Barbato, “and this election is no exception.” Bailey added, “At a moment in history we don’t want to normalize the hate and bigotry of the incoming administration…the WOW Storefront Gallery is the perfect showcase for pop culture politics.”
“SURVIVING TRUMP: THE ART OF RESISTANCE” marks a milestone in the World of Wonder Storefront Gallery’s fast and furious history. Since its inception in August of 2007, the successful pop culture-themed shows, such as Just Britney, Golden Gals Gone Wild, I am 8-BIT, and Dollypop!, celebrate the democratization of art in the heart of Hollywood Blvd club scene. World of Wonder Storefront Gallery shows have built an eclectic and fanatic following: From established to emerging artists, from Hollywood power players to club-goers, and media coverage from NPR to TMZ.
The exhibit will open in the even of January 18th, 2017, and will feature a private VIP reception with open bar from 8pm to 11pm. The artwork can be viewed and purchased with all proceeds being donated to the ACLU.
Co-curators for the exhibition are James St James, Jake Thompson, Thairin Smothers, and Blake Jacobs.
