The band OK Go (that seemingly moonlight as a video production company) have followed up their Rube Goldberg machine and treadmills by running through this maze of brightly-colored optical illusions in a single shot. Everything here for “The Writing’s on the Wall” is a trick of the eye. It took some 3 weeks and 50 takes to get this video, which is what we now expect from them. Lead singer Damian Kulash, who used to resist the “stunt band” label, decided to own it, telling Rolling Stone;
“We could go in two directions: We could either try to out-cool it – try to out-run it like Radiohead did with ‘Creep’ – or just embrace it and go, OK, what really worked here.”
It’s pretty amazing – no REALLY amazing. Watch it twice. Their next album, Hungry Ghosts, drops October 14.
