httpv://youtu.be/HDOho3Pjljs Cenk Uygur and Michelangelo Signorile discuss Obama’s “evolving” position on equality and how Obama has “got himself in a box” with this “irrational fear” of marriage equality (the equality discussion starts off at the 2:01 mark). Signorile is right on target with his view about how difficult it will be for Obama to stand against the growing movement to have marriage equality included in the Democratic Party Platform. The shameful inaction on ENDA coupled with Obama’s absurd position on marriage equality is bad enough, add in a healthy dose of the Obama campaign fighting against the inclusion of marriage equality to the party platform and activists and advocates will start sounding off. And they damn well should! This is pathetic.
Gay rights advocate and former presidential aide Richard Socarides stated the obvious: “There is no reason for delay. This is an issue that everybody knew would come before the platform committee at least since last June, when we passed marriage equality in New York. The Democratic Party needs to stand for full equality for LGBT Americans. There shouldn’t be any issue or discussion over whether the Democratic party supports full equality. Either you’re for full equality or you’re not. Any Democrat who thinks we can finesse this as a party this year is delusional.” (via Towleroad)
