Sonia Bryce, a 36 year-old mother of three from Great Britain, was sentenced to eight weeks in jail for playing Ed Sheeran‘s “Shape of You” on top volume for 30 minutes straight.
And I say: THAT’S NOT ENOUGH TIME! PUNISH HER MORE! STRING HER UP BY HER THUMBS! DRAW & QUARTER HER!
The song is EASILY the worst single of the 21st century. In fact, it might rank up there with WORST OF ALL TIME. Alongside Steve Miller’s “Abracadabra,” Starship’s “We Built This City,” and anything by Pitbull.
From The Birmingham Mail:
Sonia played it, non-stop, on a loop for half an hour, until her next door neighbour Clare Tidmarsh saw red. The incessant din was “the straw that broke the camel’s back”, she said.
Now, Bryce has been jailed for eight weeks.
Walsall County Court heard that Clare, her husband and five children endured a “wholly unacceptable level of disturbance through loud noise involving music, shouting, swearing and banging – time and time again – emanating from Miss Bryce’s home”, said Judge Philip Gregory.
It was not the first time either. Landlords Walsall Housing Group Ltd had earlier secured a court order barring her from creating a nuisance or annoyance. But Bryce had been repeatedly arrested for breaching the injunction, and was jailed for six weeks in December.
She was released in February, but ended up back in court after the Ed Sheeran incident.
Neighbour Clare had kept a detailed “diary of events” cataloguing the racket from next door, said the judge. She also installed CCTV “in an attempt to control the behaviour of Miss Bryce”. She told the judge she “could no longer cope living next door to Miss Bryce and her family, and her continuous stream of visitors”.
Clare felt driven to take the drastic step of quitting her home and renting it out – just to get away from her neighbour.
If you want to torture yourself, or if for some reason you have miraculously never heard the abomination that is “Shape of You” before, here it is below.
