Oooohh scary, eh? And all because Henry Fuseli, the genius behind Nightmare (to your right ladies and gents) knew of the creative powers of a dinner of raw pork chops. I kid you not. Fuseli, not to be confused with that curly pasta, was a pervy 18-century Swiss artist who subverted London’s arts scene with his provocative paintings. These included illustrations of lesbian, homoerotic, and sadomasochistic sex, as well as cross-dressing, gender confusion, and fetishism. Hmm, sounds familiar. Anyway, he totally kicked all those namby-pamby landscapists’ asses, which was a generous gift. A celebration of Fuseli’s work is showing at Tate Britain as part of the Gothic Nightmares exhibition.
