Director James Gunn announced that Superman: Legacy will star James Corenswet. We grabbed a few quotes and shirtless pics so you can be the judge of the decision.
Fans generally seemed to embrace The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel star Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane without much comment, but the star of Ryan Murphy’s limited series Hollywood sparked a lot of spirited conversations online. This is typical whenever a new actor steps into a beloved comic book role, but the scrutiny of Superman is always particularly intense.
Corenswet also said he’s excited about a new tone and take on the American icon, telling People:
The cool thing about Superman is the thing that everybody says is the problem with the character, which is that he’s invincible. That’s the most interesting thing abut him. What a difficult position for a person to be in. There’s so much to be mined there, and deal with the drama that’s inherent in somebody who doesn’t have any problems and can’t die.‘”
Shirtless and a puppy almost never goes wrong.
Fans of reigning Superman Henry Cavill feel they got a bit of a rollercoaster as this project has progressed. Via IGN:
“Confusion initially surrounded Cavill’s involvement after the Man of Steel actor announced his return as Superman alongside the release of Black Adam, but he later revealed he wouldn’t be returning after all following Gunn and co-CEO Peter Safran’s shake-up at DC.”
With a shirt works, too!
Based on social media posts, his Juilliard degree, and his terrific notices for The Politician, there is a very good case to be made for his casting.
So far, so good! Congrats to both Brosnahan and Corenswet on the iconic roles!
