Though I discovered the book series a bit later than most, I was still very much one of those young kids who wanted to grow up and be a great gay guy like “Mouse” Michael Tolliver, who was the irrepressible and absolutely endearing lead character of Armistead Maupins’ classic Tales of the City. In fact, with very few exceptions, meeting Mr Maupin was one of my most cherished celebrity encounters. I was introduced to him years back by one of my favorite actresses, Parker Posey, who had a role in Showtime’s Tales of the City miniseries. Armistead was so charming, and as nice as he is talented. So I was thrilled to discover that he has recently written a new book in the Tales series, entitled Michael Tolliver Lives, which hits the bookstores today. It’s the perfect read for my summer beach vacation!

[Ed note: We know that Wayne won’t look at even the first page of the new Maupin until he’s finished James St James’ Freak Show – if he hasn’t already. And not so incidentally, James will be reading from and signing copies of Freak Show tonight at 7 at Book Soup on Sunset Boulevard.]
