I think 30 Rock is my all-time favorite sitcom, slightly beating out Will & Grace and Seinfeld. I’ve honestly watched each episode at least a dozen times. (Seasons 2, 3 & 4 are the best. 6 & 7, the writing is not nearly as good.) Anyway, the same 30 Rock team of Tina Fey and Robert Carlock comes Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt starring Ellie Kemper (The Office, Bridesmaids) as a woman who is rescued from a doomsday cult and decides to start life over as a nanny for an UES rich bitch played brilliantly by Jane Krakowski. This fish-out-of-water premise combined with the comically rich over-the-top NYC socialite is the perfect combo for a 2015 parody of modern life. Armed with just a backpack, light-up sneakers and some outdated references –she encourages her new (gay?) roommate, Tituss (Tituss Burgess) who is an aspiring performer:
“You’ll sing at the Grammys with Michael Jackson & Whitney Houston!” “Thanks… but bad example, honey!”
It’s really laugh-out-loud funny and just as odd as 30 Rock with some of the same faces. I’m on episode 2 trying not to bing all 13 episodes on Netflix. Watch.
