httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y4rj_mUhlYQ&feature=player_embedded The National Organization for Marriage is gleefully reporting that a group of black ministers in North Carolina “called out” the gay community for equating the struggle for marriage equality with the civil rights movement. The state is currently involved in an increasingly bigoted debate on whether a constitutional prohibition should be added to the state constitution banning same-sex marriage even though gay marriage is already banned by statute in that state. The Rev Johnny Hunter of Cliffdale Community Church in Fayetteville said, “Blacks know what real discrimination is all about. They’re disrespecting … the foot soldiers of the civil rights movement.”
Oh Really? Well, maybe the good Reverend needs to pick up a history book, because he obviously doesn’t know what the fuck he is talking about! But maybe he doesn’t have the time to read a book with so much anti-gay bigotry to push, so how about he just listen to what an actual “foot soldier” of the civil rights movement thinks about gay marriage. John Lewis, who actually marched side by side with Martin Luther King, Jr. from Selma, Alabama, to Montgomery, has been speaking out for marriage equality for many years – and we won’t even mention Bayard Rustin or Coretta Scott King’s views on the matter! The gall of these guys to use the Civil Rights movement as a way to promote bigotry. UGGGH! (via GoodAsYou)
