Since the start of the pandemic, Naomi Campbell has been doing an interview show from her home, and her most recent guest Mary J. Blige had a lot to say about her legendary music career.
Mary also shares stories about Biggie Smalls, her “baby sister” Lil’ Kim, Diddy, stylist Misa Hylton, and Andre Harrell, the executive who gave Mary her big break and who died earlier this year. Mary had recorded her cover of Caught Up In The Rapture by Anita Baker at a mall and got her stepfather to give it to singer Jeff Redd, who got it to Andre. ONe day, Andrea comes to her apartment to hear her live:
So I started to sing, Andre’s standing there staring, I zone out and sing almost the whole Caught Up In The Rapture album, and when I opened my eyes, Andre looked at me and was like, “Oh my God, you’re a star.“
He came to my hood, and heard this young girl sing, and gave me a chance. Everything else was history.
Naomi has about two dozen episodes online featuring models, entertainers, and fashion industry icons. Earlier this year she did a wonderful episode titled “Black Trans Lives Matter” with actor Indya Moore, civil rights lawyer Chase Strangio, and activist Tori Cooper from the Human Rights Campaign.
