In this clip from the WOW documentary The Eyes of Tammy Faye, we revisit how Jerry Falwell swooped in to “rescue” Jim and Tammy Faye Bakker’s PTL TV network in the wake of the Jessica Hahn scandal and ended up stealing it from them. “I had Jerry Falwell strapped to my back for a long time,” Tammy tells her congregation. “He was on my back strapped so tightly to me I couldn’t breathe. I couldn’t hardly eat. I had a hard time sleeping. I was miserable. He was destroying my life. Jerry Falwell was killing me!” Tammy Faye finally has Jerry Falwell off her back. And not a moment too soon. Now she can go in peace.
