As several people have pointed out on Twitter, you don’t need to agree with someone’s politics to sympathize with someone suffering from cancer. John McCain is an American hero, and his five years spent being brutalized in Hoa Lo prison during the Vietnam war for refusing to cooperate with his country’s enemy, earns him our eternal respect. This footage of McCain exiting a bus in Hanoi in 1973 was discovered in Swedish archives. It shows the limping and still-injured vet on the day of his release, as he is being turned over to the Americans. Once you get past what a spectacularly handsome man he was, it’s hard not get a little misty at the thought of what he endured and what an honorable man he is.
