Elon Musk posted a poll on Sunday asking Twitter users if he should step down as CEO of Twitter.
Sunday evening, he tweeted,
Should I step down as head of Twitter? I will abide by the results of this poll.”
The poll closed at 6:20 AM on Monday, with more than 17.5 million votes,
57.5% YES
42.5% NO
In the replies to the tweet, Musk said he had not selected a replacement, after a user suggested he had already chosen one.
No one wants the job who can actually keep Twitter alive. There is no successor.”
The move is in keeping with Musk’s erratic leadership of the company so far.
Musk has repeatedly made policy decisions on apparent personal whims, including in recent days when he suddenly suspended several prominent tech journalists who had reported on him.
Buh-Bye.
I don’t want to get anyone’s hopes up because Musk is a pathological liar and narcissist whose word is less than meaningless. BUT there is a chance—however small—that he’s using this poll to give himself the out to actually leave Twitter. This is what he needs to do to save Tesla pic.twitter.com/1qYRbEdcO4
