Yes! On the high heels of last year’s Emmy and RuPaul‘s inclusion in the Time 100 this year, RuPaul’s Drag Race just won the MTV Movie & TV Award for “Best Reality Competition” show! Yaaas, Mama! Well-deserved!
But it was curious how the award was given out. Host Adam Devine just dropped the golden popcorn trophy off at Ru’s table and continued on with the show. Hmmmm. A show that celebrates the LGBTQ community being recognized is kind of a big deal. To us, anyway.
So, we didn’t get to hear Mama Ru deliver some words of wisdom, that we know he’s capable of. (Did you watch the keynote at DragCon this year?) And did you see Chris Pine on SNL twerking his ass, OBSESSED over Drag Race.
WOW’s Fenton Bailey had this to say about the show,
“This is a show that tears down walls, breaks boundaries and opens hearts wherever it is shown. So, Condragulations, RuPaul, Michelle Visage and everyone at World of Wonder. It’s a stellar team who, along with the queens and judges, give it their all. To be around them is a reward beyond any prize.“
Michelle chimed in on Facebook today to add,
“We are thrilled. It was a great night!! WHO doesn’t want golden popcorn!?”
So, in the end, it’s all good.
