You heard it here second, kids. Variety is reporting exclusively that RuPaul is filming a talk show pilot with World of Wonder Productions and Telepictures, which also produces Ellen.
It will reportedly launch in the fall of 2019 and will be filmed in front of a live audience with Ru’s own positive and aspirational point of view, interviewing celebrities, playing games, and dishing on pop culture.
Michelle Visage is also expected to play a major role. (She said in a recent interview that the goal all along was for Ru to have a talk show. They already have podcast and know how to talk their faces off, so this is a no-brainer.)
Mama Ru had a talk show on VH1 produced by WOW in the 90s, called The RuPaul Show which was WAY ahead of its time, if you ask me. The timing for this new show, after the success of RuPaul’s Drag Race, seems perfect.
Mr. Charles has several other TV projects in the works, darling, including a comedy series for Netflix titled AJ and the Queen, in which he will star, as well as write and executive produce with Michael Patrick King. Hulu is also developing a series based on his life with J.J. Abrams serving as executive producer. (Oh, and DUH, VH1 renewed RuPaul’s Drag Race for season 11!)
Everything’s coming up Ruses! (That needs some work maybe…?)
Below is Ru interviewing Miss Ross in ’96 as well as a HILARICAL reel of Michelle and Ru cutting up. Yes, more of this please.
