Nothing can stop trans joy! Even though Montana’s Zooey Zephyr was barred from their House floor for supporting trans youth, she surprised her partner, journalist Erin Reed, with a marriage proposal. And she said yes!
As we reported last month, Zephyr has been blocked from speaking for this legislative session after she told supporters of a bill to ban gender-affirming care that when they bowed their heads in prayer, she hoped they would see “blood on their hands.”
Via People:
Zephyr tried to appeal the decision, but a Montana judge denied Zephyr’s return to the state’s house floor earlier this week, saying in a court filing that the Montana House of Representatives retains “exclusive constitutional authority” to discipline its own members, according to CBS News.
Zephyr, who has been allowed to work remotely, defended her actions.
“I was speaking to the real consequences of the votes that we as legislators take in this body,” she said. “And when the speaker asks me to apologize on behalf of decorum, what he is really asking me to do is be silent when my community is facing bills that get us killed.”
To the consternation of her Republican opponents, Zephyr set up shop outside the chambers and stuck up a Post-It that says Seat 31, her rightful place inside.
She’s currently suing to be allowed back in, but in the meantime, she had another surprise up her sleeve:
Tonight I asked Erin to marry me.
A year ago, I told Erin that I was looking
for a love that felt like home. I have found that and so much more.I have found my future, my family, and my forever.
Reed has been doggedly covering over 450 anti-trans and anti-drag bills introduced across the United States on her Erin in the Morning report. Talk about a power couple!
