When it comes to Party Monster packaging, if you’ve seen one DVD, you haven’t seen them all. The movie about New York club kids and their Drano-killer leader has sported several tag lines since its release. Originally, the movie was “good. evil. fun.” Then the story became edgier with “Till death do they party.” The Japanese version features two slugs–“For fabulous punks” and “Everybody come to my party”–that sound so fun and give no hint of the savage slaughter. The US cover art was altered to make stars Culkin and Green appear less appalling and more appealing. The trippy Thai bootleg version reverts back to the original tag line of “good. evil. fun.” and uses the poster art. The credit info on the back of the soft vinyl wrapper calls it “a Fenton Bailey film” even though Randy Barbato is credited as director. So, hmm, which one to buy? Bailey recommends the Thai bootleg. It sells in Bangkok for 100 baht, which is about $2.53. Well worth it, but the trip there will cost you plenty.
