Well, Miss Universe has the world’s attention this morning for all the wrong reasons. Host, Steve Harvey, made one of the biggest mistakes in pageant history as he announced the WRONG winner’s name last night. Poor Miss Colombia put on the crown, got flowers, walked to the end of the stage and the whole thing, but she was NOT the winner. Miss Philippines actually won! About a minute after Miss Colombia was announced as the winner, Harvey approached the front of the stage and sheepishly said he had to make an announcement.
“OK, folks. I have to apologize.”
But even before that fiasco moment, Perez Hilton, who was a judge took to the microphone to say,
“Thankfully Donald Trump no longer owns this pageant.”
This got HUGE applause from the audience. Trump sold the organization earlier this year and tweeted his disapproval at the mix up, of course.
Another former Miss Universe (& RuPaul’s Drag Race) judge Santino Rice tweeted fowl play all night long saying,
“As someone who has been a Judge of The Miss Universe Pageant, I can tell you that it is totally and completely fake.”
He goes on to say that the producers created this as a stunt and that it’s not Steve Harvey’s fault. Also that it’s live but there’s enough of a delay that they could have edited the humiliation out.
Alyssa Edwards tweeted out a funny Photoshopped meme of her losing the crown to Coco Montrese again. In 2010, Edwards was crowned Miss Gay America but months later had to surrender her crown to Montrese. The Pageant never officially released details surrounding the removal of Edwards’ title, but Montrese said that business dealings that conflicted with her reign were at play. Who knows…? but Alyssa’s famous sense of humor popped up on Twitter immediately after.
