Woody Allen just cast Miley Cyrus in his new streaming series for Amazon. The untitled project, which is set in the 60s, will also star Elaine May and Allen for a six half-hour episodes airing later this year. Miley confirmed her role on Instagram, displaying a portrait of Mr. Allen that she said has been beside her bed for years. She wrote, adding expletives and FIVE unicorn emojis,
“I was looking into his eyes when I got the call to be a part of the cast.”
As an actress, she starred in Disney’s Hannah Montana for four seasons, along with films like The Last Song. She also appeared as herself in December in A Very Murray Christmas.
Amazon announced last January that Allen would write and direct his first television show for them. He quickly turned self-deprecating about the deal after it was made public.
“It was a catastrophic mistake for me. I don’t even know what a streaming service is.
Amazon kept coming to me and saying, please do this, whatever you want… Well, this went on for a year and a half, and they kept making a better deal and a better deal. Finally they said look, we’ll do anything that you want, just give us six half hours.
I have regretted every second since I said O.K.”
That’s why you’re Woody and we can’t wait. Elaine May!
