HBO is developing a drama series based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel Middlesex, written by Jeffrey Eugenides. Actor/producer Rita Wilson will executive produce the one-hour project and Donald Margulies will pen the adaptation and also executive produce. Set in Detroit, the novel follows the life of Calliope Stephanides and the family history surrounding her.
I am so excited about this I could piss my pants. Just after I had read The Virgin Suicides, this book came out, and I couldn’t wait to get more of Eugenides. This story of a young girl and how her family history affects her life, mixed with themes of gender, identity and sexuality, is so engaging. If you haven’t read it, it is a MUST READ, even if only to be ready for when the series begins. Just another reason why it’s not TV, it’s HBO. (via Cynopsis)
