Here’s Melania’s newly renovated White House Rose Garden, rushed to be ready so it could be used as a backdrop for her Tuesday speech to the RNC.
The garden just outside the Oval Office dates back to 1913 and was redesigned in the early 60s under direction from First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy.
Jackie told designer Bunny Mellon that her husband’s happiest times in the White House had been spent in the Rose Garden the president asked her to design. She wrote,
“He will always be remembered, for creating such a scenic spot.”
Nevertheless, Crabapple trees planted by Jackie were removed and the White House said they will be “relocated” somewhere on the grounds. The original diamond-shaped boxwood hedges were added back and new rose bushes were added; cream-colored JFK roses, light yellow Peace roses, and the white Pope John Paul II rose to commemorate his visit to the White House in ’79.
Just as Trump removed Michelle Obama‘s vegetable garden, the grassy area where President Barack Obama held his ’09 “beer summit” of course has been covered over with a sidewalk.
The project was funded by private donations. I’ll bet Melania had zero to do with the actual plan, but it’s not as hideous as her holiday decorations, at least.
One Twitter user wrote,
“JFK’s memory insulted by garden destruction, funeral at WH, only for Presidents that die in office, ruined my memory of Jackie Kennedy’s colorful roses & tulips w/ flowering cherry & apples trees. Looks like cemetery, which fits with Trump’s new use of WH as Trump family funeral home”

What do you think? I’m reminded of that RuPaul quote,
