A who’s who of actors has landed in the Midwest to film the big-screen adaptation of August: Osage County, Tracy Letts’ Pulitzer Prize-winning play about a dysfunctional family trying to find its missing father (Sam Shepard) and survive its demon mother (Meryl Streep). Letts, fresh off Killer Joe, also wrote the screenplay for the film, which features Julia Roberts, Juliette Lewis, Margo Martindale, Ewan McGregor, Benedict Cumberbatch, Chris Cooper, Abigail Breslin, Dermot Mulroney, Misty Upham, and Julianne Nicholson. It’s pitch-black comedy mixed with high tragedy and peppered with redneck revelations. Chekhov, meet Sordid Lives. What more do you need?
