Caroline Guiliani, the 20-year-old daughter of the hatchet-faced former New York City mayor Rudy Guiliani, was arrested Wednesday after store security and a salesperson at a Manhattan branch of Sephora spotted her slipping five makeup items worth $100 into her pockets. The two employees called 911, then apprehended and held the pretty shoplifter until police arrived on the scene, the scene being 86th Street near Lexington. She was taken to the 19th Precinct and spent some time behind bars. Sephora decided not to press charges and no other formal charges were filed. Her mother made her bail. Concerned pundits and amateur shrinks everywhere are scratching there collective head, puzzled over what would prompt a daughter of privilege to commit such a heinous crime, suggesting it must be either the old axe “a cry for help” or straight-up mental illness. The New York Post went so far as to locate the junior Giuliani’s brief cellmate, 31-year-old Teiyana Terry, who had been caught shoplifting at a Duane Reade drugstore. “She introduced herself as Caroline,” Terry told the tabloid. “She didn’t make any issue about being Giuliani’s daughter. I didn’t find out until I heard the police call her name. We were in the same place. She was no better than me.” That’s telling them. (via Examiner; photo: Lawrence Schwartzwald)
