A mural by Banksy, shows a workman chipping away at one of the stars on a European Union (EU) flag.
“Give me a bubble letter and put it on a t-shirt and write ‘Banksy’ on it and we’re sorted. We can sell it now. No disrespect to Robert, I think he is a brilliant artist. I think he has flipped the world of art over.”
If Banksy’s first name really is Robert, it backs up a theory that journalist Craig Williams had in September 2016 saying that Banksy is actually Robert Del Naja, the co-founder of Massive Attack.
Williams pointed out that the appearance of Banksy murals and exhibitions has often followed Massive Attack gigs in various cities, from San Francisco to Toronto to Los Angeles. Williams also reminded us that Del Naja was a street artist in the 1980s.
Artnet News got in touch and heard back from Del Naja via email,
“I kinda always knew that ‘Goldie’ would lead me on the path to fame and fortune.”
A very Banksy response, no?
