In a bombshell leak just days before the Democratic convention, Wikileaks made public some 20,000 emails of top officials at the Democratic National Committee. The tall and short of it is the DNC (which is supposed to remain completely neutral throughout the primary process) was exposed for having strategized with the Clinton campaign before the primaries began and that several DNC leaders colluded together to spin false narratives to hurt Bernie Sanders. “Wondering if there’s a good Bernie narrative for a story, which is that Bernie never ever had his act together, that his campaign was a mess,” wrote Deputy Communications Director Mark Paustenbach in one email to Communications Director Luis Miranda, in response to backlash over DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz shutting off the Sanders campaign’s access to voter database files. At a time when party unity is at its most crucial, the leak isn’t helping. For the committee to have worked with Clinton and then plotted against Sanders (despite their own rules saying they have to remain neutral), this revelation is just gas on the fire for Bernie supporters who say the DNC tipped the scales in HRC’s favor. No official statement has been made by the Dem Committee.
