Maripol was one of the creative types who networked at the legendary Mudd Club in downtown Manhattan in the late ’70s, early ’80s, along with the likes of Jean-Michel Basquiat, Grace Jones, Keith Haring, Debi Mazar, Vincent Gallo, and sundry actors, filmmakers, musicians, graffiti artists. Mazar, of course, famously did Madonna’s hair and makeup, and jewelry designer Maripol was her stylist and also served as art director at Fiorucci. She was never without her Polaroid camera, and in 2005 her SX-70 ‘roids were collected into a handsome powerHouse book called Maripolarama. Tonight at the agnes b store at 100 North Robertson Boulevard in Los Angeles, there will be a reception for the opening of an exhibit of Maripol’s photos and a book signing, from 6 to 9 PM.
