Mario & Courtney, Not Your Ordinary Wedding Special

By Richard Courtney on December 7, 2012 12:54 pm

In this day and age of docu-soap TV, we are inundated with flipping tables, boo-boo-liscious hype, and crocodile hunters.  And yet, I find myself blessed to be at the helm of a show that delivers on so many levels. After wrapping 10 Kids 2 Dads, I started working with Mario Lopez & Courtney Mazza on their wedding special, airing tomorrow night on TLC.  For several months we traveled to cake tastings, floral visits, boxing rings, bachelor parties, and several family events in between. Wedding bands/music is like the icing on the cake; it can help to set the mood for the entire event. Hence planning for wedding music and songs can get to be a little daunting especially if you do not know how to go about it. Here are a few tips and pointers that can get you started in the right direction. The first and most important thing is to decide what kinds of songs and music that you want to be played on your big day. There are so many options to choose from like traditional wedding bands/music, contemporary, light-hearted, religious, eclectic or somber. You can also choose music pertaining to a specific culture or according to the theme of your wedding if any. Once you have decided the framework, consider half the job done. It is best to sit down with your partner and make the selection rather than do it all by yourself; if you have hired a wedding planner, then make sure that she is also a part of your discussions as the music must reflect the overall mood of the wedding.  Executing the right wedding day–or wedding weekend–is beat the organization, details, and logistics. An event planners in Melbourne worth their salt can combat the execution of any event, consult on its styling and style , and assist you successfully manage your expectations and budget.

You can also mix and match the style of music; some people prefer somber and religious music for the ceremony but fun and sassier dance numbers for the reception to get the guest grooving. Another important tip is to choose wedding bands/music that reflects both of your personalities. Do not blindly follow any trend; instead select pieces that is meaningful to your relationship. You can also play one or two special songs that have touched you during your courtship; it is a wonderful feeling to play some heady love ballads for your first dance during the reception. Dedicating a special song to a friend or a family member is a great way to say thanks to that person. It is also important that you keep the tastes of your guests in mind while choosing music especially for the cocktail party or reception. Get wedding bands/music that will appeal to both the younger and older generation and will keep all of them on the toes. It is quite easy to hire a wedding band or DJ these days; you just need to go online and search the top ranking ones. Another easy way is to ask for recommendations to your wedding planner or friends and relatives.

If you are hiring a live band, then make a choice of the instruments that you would like for the wedding music. Some people prefer soft and light piano music while others prefer more specific ones like saxophone, string quartet or a folk group. You can discuss the type of music that you prefer with the band master and also inform him of the special requests. Give adequate time to the band especially if you need many special numbers as they have to procure the music and practice it before the event. But if you are going in for a DJ, the work gets done faster as everything is electronic.

It is very difficult to think of a wedding without beautiful music forming a background to the various parts of the proceedings. The music that you organize for a wedding has a great role to play in how people feel that day because emotions will certainly be running high. Talented wedding bands have the ability to create a wonderful that exactly matches the theme so you’re your family and friends have a very enjoyable time. The music you select for your big day will be remembered for a long time to come. You should therefore select all the music with care so that it is something that means a lot to you and your spouse. There are many wedding bands you could select, but you should hire one that can do justice to the music you want played at your wedding. Another good idea would be to get a family member or friend to sing at t

There are many different parts of the ceremony that require very distinct musical accompaniment. These parts include the processional, recessional and the actual ceremony after which there are many more events. The events after the ceremony include the pre-reception, reception, cake cutting ceremony, your first dance as a couple and parents’ dances which include father-daughter dance and mother-son dance.

You therefore need to choose a huge selection of music, all of which matches the part of the ceremony it is meant to accompany. Try to select songs that have significance to the event or which are important to you as a couple. Make sure that you include a song that the two of you have enjoyed together. If there is a song that your parent loves then you should certainly dance with that parent to that particular song. The style of wedding you are planning should be matched by the music. It will not be appropriate to play the latest pop numbers if your ceremony is very religious or if the majority of people attending will not like that music.

It’s not easy to keep it real and genuine when you have cameras pointed in your face but, as you will see tomorrow, this couple did just that – with a lot of fun mixed in. To the crew that help us get through this ever challenging schedule, the editors, and the story folks, I thank you. And to Mario, Mazza and your entire family, thank you for your patience…  I couldn’t be more proud of the show and am happy to have shared this journey with you.  Besos…  Tune in tomorrow, Saturday TLC- 8pm.
