Poor Marilyn is probably SPINNING in her grave right about now. A new one of those “You Aren’t You When You’re Hungry” commercials has debuted with Willem Defoe standing on a subway grate in a white dress, bitching about the wind coming up his skirt and his heels falling through grating holes. A PA hands her a candy bar and says “Miss Monroe, eat a Snickers. You get a little cranky when you’re hungry.” Suddenly, we see Marilyn smiling and saying “Much better.”
“I have to admit playing a Hollywood bombshell is a new challenge for me,” Dafoe said in a statement. “But as a huge fan of Marilyn Monroe, I just couldn’t resist the opportunity to take a walk in her shoes and famous white dress.”

It’s heresy, of course. Marilyn would NEVER do a Snickers commercial when she was alive. Much like Audrey Hepburn would never hawk Dove chocolate and Fred Astaire would never shill for Dirt Devil brooms. I find the whole reanimating-dead-celebrities-for-commercials trend to be tacky, tacky, tacky. Of course, that being said, if somebody wants to use my old Transformation videos to sell hemorrhoid cream or herpes medication when I’m dead, you have my blessing.
