Let’s just say Margot Robbie is raking it in for Barbie…
According to Business Insider, the movie was Robbie’s idea and she pitched the film, telling studios
It’d make a billion dollars”
You can bet eyes rolled until that green started rolling in.
Greta Gerwig‘s take on the iconic doll is Warner Bros.‘ most successful movie domestically OF ALL TIME, raking in $1.28 billion at the worldwide box office and counting.
Robbie reportedly earned her biggest payday so far, $12.5 million, plus points on “the back end” as they say.

For comparison Robbie earned as a base salary on some of her other films;
- $350,000 The Wolf of Wall Street
- $5 million Amsterdam
- $5 million Babylon
- $8 million The Suicide Squad
- between $9-10 million Birds of Prey
But Robbie will apparently earn MUCH more than the $50 million initially reported. On his podcast, The Town, Matthew Belloni said that from what he has heard, that $50 million number “is ridiculously low” when compared to what Robbie will actually earn.
Top Gun Maverick star Tom Cruise is reportedly getting approximately $100 million, according to Variety.
Robbie could approach $100 million, as both Barbie and Top Gun have had similar box office success.
How much Margot Robbie ends up making is still fluctuating as the movie is still raking up ticket sales. Plus there is tax (Australia? US?) agents, managers plus notoriously fudge-y studio bookkeeping but, let’s just say it’s a LOT.
Barbie is in theaters worldwide now.
