On the day in 1969 that Neil Armstrong walked on the moon, the Mamas & the Papas creator John Phillips and his third wife, Genevieve Waite, conceived and began work on a musical called Man on the Moon. It’s said that Phillips worked on the musical longer than anything he’d ever worked on before, and in 1975 it was ready, eventually presented by Andy Warhol at the Little Theatre in New York. It closed after five days. But fortunately a cast album was recorded and somebody shot video, two scenes from which are clipped here. (Full story and photos at Dangerous Minds; t/y Lenora)
