If it seems the world is obsessed with David Beckham, it’s nothing compared to the obsession Beckham has with… everything. He’s just come clean about his obsessive compulsive disorder, a condition that forces him to perform mundane but exacting daily rituals. He counts his clothes and places magazines in straight lines and symmetrical patterns; in a hotel room, he can’t relax (or whatever) until he’s moved all the guest literature into a drawer; at the supermarket, he’ll buy exactly 20 packets of Super Noodles; he spends hours aligning furniture; and he has to have the Pepsi cans paired up in the refrigerator (Pepsi’s his sponsor).
Other celeb OCD sufferers include Woody Allen, Harrison Ford, Emily Lloyd, Michelle Pfeiffer, Winona Ryder, and Howie Mandel. And it’s believed Charles Dickens and Marcel Proust were victims. Which explains a lot. The World Health Organization says that OCD is one of the top 10 most debilitating illnesses, yet it affects only two percent of the population. Someone should straighten that out.
