A stage being built for Madonna’s July 19 Sticky & Sweet tour date at the Stade Velodrome in Marseilles, France, collapsed and fell onto workers earlier today, killing one and injuring six others, two seriously. “There were a lot of open fractures, of injuries, it was a messy sight,” a rescue worker told Agence-France Presse. Madonna, who was in Italy at the time for a another show, was told of the accident after finishing a soundcheck. “I am devastated to have just received this tragic news,” she said in a statement. “My prayers go out to those who were injured and their families along with my deepest sympathy to all those affected by this heartbreaking news.” The Marseilles date has been canceled and the area where the accident occurred is barricaded. A crane failure may have caused the collapse. (Rolling Stone)
