They say that one man’s trash is another man’s treasure; yes, but they also say that one man’s meat is another man’s poison. On disturbingauctions.com, it’s all trauma.
This site is dedicated to the research and study of the most bizarre items found for sale on internet auction sites. Not the obviously fake auctions, like the infamous human kidney, but truly tacky stuff that people really, honestly, believed that someone would (and in some cases did) buy.
At theyrecoming.com, sisters Barbara May and Barbara Jo dissect horror movies and bake cakes to resemble human organs. Here, Barbara May creates a thoracic cavity cake, stuffed with frosted organs that bleed fruity juices.
After baking all the different types of cakes, I carved them into the shapes of the appropriate organs, using my handy Gray’s Anatomy as a reference. I then flipped each organ over, hollowed out a cavity in the center and frosted the inside of the cavity with buttercream frosting. After spooning in the fruit sauces, I sealed the cavities with a layer of fondant icing and flipped the organs back over. The heart and the lungs I covered with white modelling chocolate and the kidneys and stomach I covered with fondant icing.
