Lori Loughlin (and scores of others) face charges for allegedly participating in a college admissions cheating scam to get her children into school.
Loughlin’s 19-year-old daughter, who goes by Olivia Jade on her popular YouTube channel, faced backlash last year when she posted a video in which she said she was only interested in attending college for the parties.
Answering fan questions, Olivia Jade said she wasn’t sure how she planned to balance her social media career while taking classes at USC,
“I don’t know how much of school I’m gonna attend but I’m gonna go in and talk to my deans and everyone, and hope that I can try and balance it all. But I do want the experience of like game days, partying… I don’t really care about school, as you guys all know.”
Fans were NOT impressed and accused her of having a “privileged” outlook on school. One commenter said,
“I honestly found it very disappointing when you said you care more about parties and tailgates rather than your education. If you hate school so much why go to college?. And it’s honestly insulting when tons of people can’t even afford to go to college but want to.”
“Dang must be nice to only go to school for the game days, or to party…”
After reading the comments, OJ (as she calls herself –great reference.) posted a second video apology, admitting she was “disappointed” in herself.
“I said something super ignorant and stupid, basically. And it totally came across that I’m ungrateful for college — I’m going to a really nice school. And it just kind of made it seem like I don’t care, I just want to brush it off. I’m just gonna be successful at YouTube and not have to worry about school.
I’m really disappointed in myself.”
And she’s, apparently, ALWAYS working some angle…
Eric Dahan, CEO of Open Influence, a data-driven influencer marketing company with a network of 485,000 influencers, told The Hollywood Reporter,
“The important thing to understand about the celebrity/influencer sponsorship space is that brands are very risk-averse. Brands spend millions of dollars building up and defending their brand name, and understand that the wrong sponsorship can undo all of their hard work. Typically, having a criminal record or any negative press makes an influencer radioactive in the eyes of an advertiser.“
UPDATE: According to TMZ Olivia Jade is currently spending her spring break in the Bahamas with the Chairman of university’s Board of Trustees of USC, as she is a long-time friend of his daughter.
