Grant Gustin, who played the hateful homo Sebastian Smythe on Glee, will play Barry Allen/The Flash in three episodes of The CW’s Arrow, the last of which will serve as a backdoor pilot for a potential spinoff series. Give me a moment while I weep and wail and curse the powers that be at the CW. It’s A TERRIBLE IDEA, a TERRIBLE CASTING CHOICE, and possibly the worst thing Warner Bros could do, EVEN WORSE THAN BEN AFFLECK AS BATMAN, I’m serious. First of all, Barry Allen is a MAN. A hunky blond MAN. Not some baby-faced twink. MAYBE Grant could pull off Wally West, or pooossibly Bart Allen, but NOT BARRY. I just can’t accept it. And, as MoviePilot points out, if WB wants to have him make the jump to the big screen in a future movie, this surely isn’t the way to go. I mean, who the fuck is Grant Gustin? Also: Updating the Flash’s costume is going to be tricky. They obviously aren’t going to put him in a red leotard, because superheroes don’t do that look anymore. But the Flash’s costume is so iconic that if you put him in a red sweatshirt and jeans it will ruin EVERYTHING. Just look what they did to Green Arrow. (Stupid fucking face paint.) “Part of the fun for the audience is to see how we view our take on the Flash legacy,” Arrow creator Andrew Kreisberg said. “Some of it will feel very familiar to DC Comics, some of it hopefully will feel different, fresh and exciting. The same way we approached Arrow is the same way we’re approaching Barry.” Which is JUST WHAT I’M AFRAID OF. (via The Hollywood Reporter)
