The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has officially condemned a since-deleted story on the Daily Beast where a straight reporter posed as gay on Grindr to do a feature on sex at the Olympics is “simply unacceptable.” An IOC spokesperson told Outsports,
“We understand the organization concerned recalled the journalist after complaints and withdrew the story. This kind of reporting is simply unacceptable.“
The IOC says that the Daily Beast has sent writer Nico Hines home. This is as yet unconfirmed but his last story on the Beast’s website was Aug. 9, two days before his story about Olympics sex was posted. He also has not tweeted anything since Aug. 10.
The Daily Beast has apologized and removed the story from their set but this story has not gone away. Out Olympian, Amini Fonua has publicly shamed Himes and the Beast but apology did not satisfy many people, who demanded the IOC revoke the credentials of Hines and the Daily Beast.
