Deaf model and current dancing favorite, Nyle DiMarco was paired with Keo Motsepe for a seductive tango in the first same-sex dance routine on Dancing With The Stars. For the Judges’ team Challenge, judge Bruno Tonioli put DiMarco and Peta Murgatroyd with actress Jodie Sweetin and Keo Motsepe.
While the dancers normally swap partners through the performance, the audience was semi-shocked when Keo grabbed DiMarco for a shirtless Argentinian Tango. Through his interpreter, DiMarco told the cameras,
“This is a Dancing With The Stars first, having same-sex dancing.”
Kyle also had another first on the show when he and the dance troupe performed without the help of music, to show what he experiences every time he performs. The moment didn’t last long but it was clear how moving it was.
Judge Carrie Ann Inaba, who was brought to tears by the routine and could barely contain her emotions. Inaba said, choking back tears,
“I’ve seen a lot on this show, 22 seasons, and I’ve never seen anything like that. [Something] that touched me so profoundly.
You really are educating us about what it is to dance the way you’re dancing.
”
