DJ Eugene Schroeder, aka Eugene Edo was killed by hit-and-run driver in Williamsburg..
Eugene was found at the intersection of Johnson Avenue and Morgan Avenue at around 11:30 PM last night.
A preliminary investigation determined the bicyclist was stopped alongside a vehicle on Morgan Ave. and was struck when the vehicle, possibly a truck, made a right turn.
Schroeder was thrown from his bike and suffered severe head injuries. The driver left the scene.
His partner of 17 years, John Rappaport, is still trying to process life without his husband. He said Schroeder was coming from the gym at the time of the crash.
Rappaport posted,
My heart is broken. I will never get the chance to say I love you again.
If you had the pleasure of knowing , he was the kindest, sweetest, most gentle and generous person this earth had ever been given.
I would give my life right now to be able to see you just one more time.”
Gene’s friend Joshua Christiansen has set up a GoFundMe page to raise money for funeral expenses with a goal of $12,500. So far nearly $11,000 has been raised.
This is so shocking. I’m so sorry for John’s loss as well as Gene’s friends. We were acquaintances over the years and shared the same passion for politics and LGBTQ issues on social media. He will be missed by many.
