Margot Robbie says she’d love to explore Harley Quinn’s queerness in her next Suicide Squad role, Birds of Prey.
The movie will focus on her character joining forces with other three female superheroes.
Produced by Robbie, the production is a powerful girl-fest already, starring Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Jurnee Smollett-Bell, with Cathy Yan directing a script by Christina Hodson.
Robbie told Pridesource.com, she’d like to share some screen time with Poison Ivy in the future.
In August, DC confirmed that Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy tied the knot in the Injustice video games and the two shared a passionate kiss on the cover of comic book Harley Quinn in 2015.
“If you read the comics you know that Poison Ivy and Harley have an intimate relationship. In some comics they convey it as a friendship, in other comics you can see that they’re actually sexually involved as a couple.
I’ve been trying to – I would love to have Poison Ivy thrown into the universe, because the Harley and Poison Ivy relationship is one of my favorite aspects of the comics, so I’m looking to explore that on screen.“
But when asked who would play the gender fluid supervillain, she said she wasn’t sure.
“You know what? I’ve thought about it a lot and there’s no one person who springs to mind. I’m pretty open-minded.“
Before being Harley again, Robbie will appear as Elizabeth I in Mary Queen of Scots, in theaters December 7.
