Disney trolled Ron DeSantis (aka RuPublican Rhonda Santy) by announcing Disneyland’s first-ever Pride Nite.
They promoted it in a tweet just hours after the Fascist, um, Florida governor outlined new legislation seeking to reign in the House of the Mouse as it attempts to resist a state takeover of its special taxing district.
The theme park’s after-hours LGBTQ celebration, which will be held in June as the Walt Disney Co. continues to face backlash from DeSantis’ administration for objecting to his state’s so-called “Don’t Say Gay” law.
Having latched onto the self-governing Reedy Creek Improvement District. He said the recently discovered Disney contracts are legally unsound but said that even if they weren’t,
Florida statutes provide the Legislature with the authority to revoke development agreements in this exact kind of instance...
[to] will make sure the agreements are revoked and the people’s will is established and upheld.
Disney lives under the same laws as everyone else.”
He mused about the possibility of developing district land that Disney doesn’t own.
People are like, ‘Well, what should we do with this land? Maybe create a state park. Maybe try to do more amusement parks?’ Someone even said,
‘Maybe you even need another state prison.’
Who knows? I just think that the possibilities are endless.”
DeSantis also floated the idea of raising taxes on Walt Disney World.
