As I reported here, the new film Call Me By Your Name, starring Armie Hammer and Timothée Chalamet drew raves after its Sundance debut.
But Trump supporter (and asshole) that he is, James Woods, 70, blasted the film for its gay portrayal of a relationship between a 24-year-old academic (Hammer) and a 17-year-old American expat (Chalamet) living in Italy.
“As they quietly chip away the last barriers of decency. #NAMBLA“
The hashtag in the tweet #NAMBLA stands for the North American Man/Boy Love Association, an ancient organization that (not sure that it actually exists anymore) that advocates “man/boy” love.
But Hammer, 30, wasn’t having it and shot back,
“Didn’t you date a 19 year old when you were 60..?“
Yes! When Woods was 59, he was romantically linked to 19-year-old Ashley Madison and in 2013, at 66, he dated Kristen Bauguess, who was then 20.
Actress Amber Tamblyn responded to Hammer’s tweet with her own Woods’ incident. When she was just 16, Woods tried to pick her and her girlfriend up,
“James Woods tried to pick me and my friend up at a restaurant once. He wanted to take us to Vegas. ‘I’m 16’ I said. ‘Even better’ he said.“
All of the BS aside, the film has Oscar buzz and Hammer says that the role “challenged and pushed” him as an actor. He told People.
“To be perfectly honest, I think the reason I took this movie, and the reason I had to take this movie, is that it scared me. I couldn’t be more thankful for the experience.”
Call Me By Your Name is out November 24. Watch them in action below.
(Did I mention James Woods is an asshole?)
