So far, one of the most exciting things at 2018 Winter Olympics is the internet’s thrill at watching Adam Rippon’s Olympic debut.
Rippon, 28, won a bronze medal as part of the U.S. figure skating team, and has already scored big points. He’s given TV viewers a reason to watch a post-event interview.
As good a skater as Rippon is, he knows how to give good interview. NBC’s Mike Tirico asked him what was going through his mind on the ice:
“Um, I want to throw up. Um, I want to go over to the judges and say, ‘Can I just have a Xanax? And a quick drink? I’ll be fine.’ But I kept it together.”
The skater made headlines ahead of his arrival in Pyeongchang, South Korea, for critiquing VP Mike Pence. He said,
“I wouldn’t go out of my way to meet somebody like that. I don’t think he has a real concept of reality. To stand by some of the things that Donald Trump has said and for Mike Pence to say he’s a devout Christian man is completely contradictory.
If he’s okay with what’s being said about people and Americans and foreigners and about different countries that are being called ‘shitholes,’ I think he should really go to church.”
Rippon was trending worldwide on Twitter following his performance to “Arrival of the Birds/Exodus” by The Cinematic Orchestra and “O” by Coldplay.
In an interview where he spoke about his friendship with Mirai Nagasu, the first American woman to land a triple axel at the Olympics.
“You know, especially tonight, my friend Mirai [Nagasu] and I… four years ago, we got In-N-Out, we went back to her house, we climbed up to the roof of her house, and we were eating In-N-Out because we were so upset that we weren’t at the Olympic Games. And tonight, you know, the Olympics are truly magical, because we came out here tonight, and—we’re roommates here, staying at the Olympic Village—we gave each other a hug, and I said,
‘You know, Mirai, we’re here! We did it!'”
Needless to say, the internet is loving Adam (including Tyler Oakley & Reese Witherspoon) and took to Twitter to say so.

Adam Rippon and Mirai Nagasu are roomies at the Olympics. They ate In and Out Burger when they didn't make the 2014 Olympics. Today, he almost cried when she landed her triple axel. #Olympics pic.twitter.com/gHmwemEMnM
