Seems Jay Leno isn’t exactly retiring in 2009, two loooong years from now, as we’ve been led to believe, with Conan O’Brien politely agreeing to succeed him. NBC had a vision of the Tonight Show’ s current incarnation moving into the future and it was bleak – like looking into the 1950s – and decided to replace Leno with a relevant, actually funny guy who is beloved by a demographic not yet enjoying its Golden Years. But, according to the Nat’l Enquirer, Leno believes he’s got a good 15 years of hilarious hosting and men-don’t-eat-vegetables jokes left in him:
Jay Leno is planning to get the last laugh – by jumping to Fox TV, say sources. Jay wants to go head-to-head against Conan with pretty much the same show he’s doing now – and the comic wants to take all his NBC staffers with him, according to insiders.
Conan has nothing to worry about in a head-to-head with Conan. Leno’s writers are still mining comedy lead from February’s rat infestation at Taco Bell.
