The legendary gay erotic artist Tom Of Finland (Touko Laaksonen) is going to be the subject of an upcoming biopic Tom Of Finland by Protagonist Pictures. According to Deadline, production for the film will start in the Spring in Sweden.
The story will portray Laaksonen as he returns from World War II and finds himself persecuted for his homosexuality. After being pressured into marrying a woman, he finds freedom and expression in his homoerotic artwork—drawings of muscular men in sexually uninhibited situations—which eventually gains a worldwide following and helps set off a gay revolution in the USA.
Dome Karukoski told Deadline: “This is the story of a man ahead of his time, bravely standing up against a world virulently against his right to be who he was—a homosexual man with homosexual fantasies. The story shows how literally one person can create change in the world, even with something as simple as an artist’s tools.”
